Happy Birthday Chuck Wagner!

Born June 20th, 1958- this Broadway great turns 53 today. The Tennessee native is well known for playing the title role on the tv series, Automan, as well as his recurring role on the soap, General Hospital.

On Broadway, Wagner originated the role of Rapunzel’s Prince in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods (1987). He also recorded the title role in the concept album for Frank Wildhorn’s The Scarlet Pimpernel (1992, the show went to Broadway in 1999). Wagner was well known for his work as a replacement on Broadway and on tour in Les Misérables (Javert, 1993), Beauty and the Beast (Beast, 1994- for 4 years!), and Jekyll and Hyde* (Wagner originated the title roles in Texas, pre-Broadway, and then replaced Robert Cuccioli as the title roles in national tour, 1999).

Most recently, Wagner worked as the Ringmaster for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus!
So, happy birthday to a wonderful actor, beautiful singer- and an all in all stand up guy. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Wagner on a production of Anyone Can Whistle in 2005, and I can say from experience that today’s birthday boy is one of the most kind, respectful and generous actors with which I’ve had the pleasure to share the stage.

Happy Birthday Chuck!
